Online video behaviour charted in France

According to new research, the online video market is skyrocketing all over the globe, with figures for France revealing the scale of the growth.
Médiamétrie, the French media research company, recently published a study charting the online video behaviour in the country. The study found that 28 million French people tuned in to an average of 64 videos each during September of this year.
The average time they spent viewing the videos was around three hours and 16 minutes, according to the study, which was carried out in conjunction with Nielsen Net Ratings and reported by Broadband TV News.
The most popular sites for online video viewing were found to be Google sites – including YouTube – with more than 23.2 million people in France watching over one billion videos over 37 million hours.
In second place was Dailymotion, which racked up more than 11 million online viewers, who tuned into more than 157 million over the course of four million hours.
Following Dailymotion was French private broadcasters TF1, with 8.3 million viewers, who tuned into 110 million videos for a total of 17.3 million hours. Due to the longer online videos on offer at TF1, in terms of total viewing time, TF1 came second.
In fourth place was social networking site Facebook, with 4.5 million users watching 16.4 million videos for a total of 679,000 hours. Vimeo came fifth with 3.8 million viewers watching 9.5 million videos over 498,000 hours.
Making up the sixth, seventh and eighth places were public broadcaster France Télévisions, which notched up
3.4 million viewers who watched 8.9 million videos over 1.2 million hours, M6 with 3.35 million viewers tuning into 19.5 million videos over 4.8 million hours and Canal+, which, alongside its news channel i-Télé, had a combined 3.25 million viewers watching 16.8 million videos for 2.8 million hours.
Taking the last two places in the top ten of online video viewership locations in France were Allo Cine, the French movie portal, with 2.62 million viewers watching 16.8 million videos over 520,000 hours, and Megavideo, with 2.59 million viewers watching 87.6 million videos over 8.4 million hours.
