Value of online video sector to soar by 2015, research reveals

New research from market analysis and custom consulting firm IDATE has revealed that the online video market is set to soar even higher over the next five years.
The ‘Online Video: Uses, Markets, delivery technologies/CDN’ report found that the sector will grow by as much as 35 per cent year on year between this year and 2015, to total six per cent of the total video market.
This growth will see the value of the online video sector skyrocket to a massive £18.5 billion by 2015, ensuring that its reputation as a major, mainstream marketing technique is well and truly cemented.
Vincent Bonneau, IDATE’s Internet lead analyst, told Advanced Television that the rapid growth was not just limited to online video. “The Video CDN market will develop even faster with £2 billion at 33 per cent, close to online video rates,” he said.
Currently, the online video sector is ‘healthy,’ according to the analyst, with the global consumer market totalling £4 billion by the end of last year.
More than four fifths of web users across the globe were said to be watching some form of online video content, with many tuning in to advertising, TV catch-up and instruction or information videos.
